Riff Rack

App

An app created for music lovers who want access to exclusive artist merchandise.

Concertgoers struggle with the chaos of crowds, lengthy lines, and hasty, uninformed purchases driven by panic. This process has become normalized as part of the concert “experience,” but is inefficient and overwhelming. Users want access to exclusive artist merchandise and to be better informed on the items they’re purchasing.

The Mission

The primary goal of the Riff Rack app is to provide a space where empowered users can shop for concert merchandise at their convenience. The app offers enhanced information and timely notifications regarding limited-item and exclusive offers, and increases the accessibility of those items to the general public. Say goodbye to long lines, uniformed decisions, and panic-purchases.

Interviews were conducted with the primary users, avid concertgoers, to gather insights into their past merchandise purchasing experiences.

User Research

What do users need?

  1. Access to merch without long lines

  2. Sizing and style information

  3. Notifications when limited-items are available

Pain points

Through the interview and research process, four primary pain points emerged:

  • The aversion to standing in long lines, navigating through large crowds, and the fear of potentially missing out on parts of the concert is a common sentiment among users.

  • During the buying process, people experience heightened anxiety due to the high-pressure environment that compelled them to make quick decisions and purchases.

  • Frustration grows as attempts are made to purchase limited stock items that frequently sell out before individuals can secure their purchase, leaving them disappointed and empty-handed.

  • People often expressed disappointment with merchandise purchases, as they lacked the ability to assess how the items would fit or feel until after the transaction, leading to potential dissatisfaction.

Reflection

Creating an e-commerce app was a fun experience for me. As a frequent concertgoer, the pain points identified by the users in the research phase were relatable. Riff Rack is a small step towards creating a more harmonious environment for music lovers and artists.
